Extraordinary Walk for Little Wings

At just 12 years old, Dusty Langby has captured the hearts of communities across regional New South Wales through his remarkable 540-kilometre walk from Warren to Parliament House in Canberra in support of Little Wings Australia.

I had the privilege of meeting Dusty and his support team as they crossed from Yass into the ACT, having already spent days on the road raising awareness for children in regional communities who struggle to access specialist medical care.

Dusty’s journey was inspired by his desire to help country children access the healthcare they need closer to home. Through Little Wings’ Medical Wings program, specialist paediatricians travel to regional and remote communities, reducing the need for families to undertake lengthy and expensive journeys to major hospitals. Dusty recognised there were still many children waiting for support and decided to do something extraordinary to help make a difference.

Joined by his mother Sarah, Nurse Christine, Nichole and Little Wings CEO Clare Pearson, Dusty walked up to 40 kilometres each day through regional New South Wales, speaking with local communities and encouraging others to support the cause. Along the way, countless residents, businesses, schools and community groups rallied behind his mission.

The results have been incredible. Dusty’s fundraising efforts not only generated vital support for Little Wings Australia but also helped secure a commitment from the Commonwealth Government to match funds raised and contribute an additional $1 million towards improving access to specialist healthcare for children living in regional Australia.

What makes Dusty’s achievement so inspiring is not simply the distance he walked, but the compassion, determination and leadership he demonstrated throughout the journey. At an age when most children are focused on school and sport, Dusty set himself an ambitious goal to help other young people and followed through with extraordinary dedication.

His efforts are a powerful reminder that one person can make a real difference and that regional communities are at their best when they come together to support an important cause.

Congratulations to Dusty, his family, Little Wings Australia and everyone who supported this incredible journey. Your efforts will help improve access to healthcare for children and families across regional Australia for years to come.
