Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman MP has announced that the Gundaroo Memorials Sub-Committee has been awarded a $10,000 grant through the NSW Government’s Community War Memorials Fund to improve the safety and amenity of the Gundaroo War Memorial on Cork Street.
The grant will support the replacement of the existing rough granite retaining wall and the installation of new access steps. The Gundaroo community has also contributed an additional $4,000 raised through local fundraising efforts to support the project.
Mrs Tuckerman said the funding was an important investment in preserving local heritage and ensuring the memorial remains a safe and accessible place of remembrance.
“War memorials are central to the identity of our communities — places where we gather to reflect, remember, and honour the service and sacrifice of those who defended our nation,” Mrs Tuckerman said.
“I commend the Gundaroo Memorials Sub-Committee and the wider community for their dedication to maintaining this important site and for their incredible fundraising efforts. It’s wonderful to see this project come together ahead of ANZAC Day 2026.”
The Community War Memorials Fund was established by the NSW Government in 2008 to help conserve, repair and protect war memorials across the state. Since its inception, the program has provided grants for a wide range of projects, including conservation assessments, honour roll repairs, memorial cleaning and restoration, arborist advice, and accessibility improvements.
Applications to the Fund are assessed by the State War Memorials Committee, which includes representatives from RSL NSW, NSW Public Works, Heritage NSW, and the NSW Office for Veterans Affairs.
“Through programs like this, we ensure that future generations can continue to honour those who served, in safe and well-preserved spaces that reflect our enduring respect and gratitude,” Mrs Tuckerman said.
