$20,000 GRANT HELPS DRIVE INCLUSION AND CONNECTION IN GOULBURN ELECTORATE

South West Community Transport Ltd has received $20,000 in funding through the NSW Government’s 2025 Community Building Partnership Program (CBP) towards the purchase of a new Hyundai i30 Sedan, to serve residents across the Goulburn electorate.

For people who are transport disadvantaged, community transport is often the only way they can attend medical appointments, get to treatment, or stay socially connected. Having access to a reliable vehicle is truly life-changing.

South West Community Transport currently operates a fleet of 16 vehicles, with around 15 on the road every day, serving thousands of customers across the region. The organisation is also seeking funding for another bus to further expand its services.

The service plays a critical role in the community, working closely with CanAssist to support patients who need daily access to radiation and dialysis treatments. In addition, their popular shopping bus run is open to everyone without means testing, giving locals an affordable, practical way to remain independent and connected.

Member for Goulburn, Wendy Tuckerman MP, said:

“I’m delighted that South West Community Transport has received this funding. Their dedication to keeping our residents connected to the community is inspiring.”

“This new vehicle will support their work to help people travel safely to essential appointments and community activities, maintaining their independence and social connections. Congratulations to the team at South West Community Transport.”

Team Leader of South West Community Transport, Shiralee Honey, said:

“This funding means so much to our organisation and the people we serve. Every day we see how important reliable transport is to seniors and people with disabilities. It’s not just about getting from A to B, it’s about independence, dignity, and staying connected to community life. We’re incredibly grateful for this support.”

South West Community Transport also welcomes new volunteer drivers to join their team. Volunteers simply need a Working with Children Check, NDIS clearance, and a police check.

The Community Building Partnership program has funded more than 22,400 community projects since 2009. Grants ranging from $10,000 to $100,000 support not-for-profit organisations and councils in delivering projects that strengthen communities.
