NSW UPPER HOUSE ORDERS – FULL DISCLOSURE ON PLASREFINE

Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman has welcomed the NSW Upper House’s decision to order the release of all documents relating to the controversial Moss Vale Plastics Recycling Facility (SSD9409987), commonly known as the Plasrefine proposal.

This decision comes after years of community concern over the proposal’s potential environmental and health impacts on Moss Vale and surrounding Southern Highlands communities.

“The people of Moss Vale and the Southern Highlands were rightly concerned about this facilities proposal and, even though it was rejected, they deserve transparency,” Mrs Tuckerman said.

“This order ensures that all relevant documents held by government departments and ministers will be made public within 28 days, including any legal or environmental advice.”

The Upper House’s resolution, made under Standing Order 52, compels the production of documents from agencies including the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure, the Environment Protection Authority, and the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water.

“Residents were dragged through this process over years and we have all been frustrated by a lack of clear answers. This is a step forward in cutting through the secrecy surrounding planning and delivering the accountability our community expects from the planning system,” Mrs Tuckerman said.

The motion, moved by the Hon. Natasha Maclaren-Jones, received support from the Legislative Council, demonstrating growing concern across the Parliament about the project’s approval process and potential risks.

“I thank the Upper House for backing this motion. I will continue to stand up for my community and ensure their voices are heard and their health, environment and way of life are protected,” Mrs Tuckerman said.
