The Burrawang School of Arts Inc. Committee welcomed the community to an official sod turn ceremony on Friday, 1st November, celebrating the beginning of the Creative Capital initiative aimed to extend and improve the Burrawang School of Arts Community Hall.
This $2 million investment from the former Government highlighted a commitment to enhancing regional arts and culture in NSW.
Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman said the upgraded facilities would provide substantial benefits for locals and visitors alike.
“Improvements to the Burrawang School of Arts will deliver excellent opportunities for the entire Southern Highlands community,” said Mrs Tuckerman.
The Burrawang School of Arts consists of three historic buildings: the Middle Hall (originally the Oddfellows Hall built in 1883), the Gallery Rooms (originally the library built in 1906, and the Main Hall built in 1915.
The facility has hosted many community gatherings and arts events in the past and is a popular choice for local weddings and memorial services. The upgrade will enhance the facilities for performing arts as well as addressing essential safety requirements and improving operational efficiency for the volunteers.
Mark Keech, President of the Burrawang School of Arts, highlighted the project’s impact on the community.
“This investment will improve our facilities to attract high-quality performing arts, cultural, and community events, while also ensuring our long-term sustainability. Installation of solar panels and battery as well as energy efficient lighting, heating and cooking equipment will reduce our operational costs while upgraded catering and guest facilities will improve our ability to earn income to cover annual maintenance and overhead expenses. We are immensely grateful for this funding and support.
The Burrawang School of Arts Committee appreciated the community’s attendance at this historic occasion, marking the start of an exciting new chapter for the beloved community hall.
