In the landmark Royal visit, His Majesty King Charles III announced the establishment of the King’s Foundation Australia, aimed at preserving the nation’s built heritage and fostering sustainable communities.
At a special reception held at Admiralty House in Sydney, the King expressed his commitment to Australia through this new initiative. The King’s Foundation Australia will focus on protecting, conserving, and regenerating historic sites while delivering educational programs for young people and promoting sustainable urbanism.
Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman welcomed the announcement that the foundation’s inaugural project will be the restoration of Hillview Estate in Sutton Forest.
“This is a historically significant site, once a vice-regal summer retreat for Governors of New South Wales, and I am delighted that the Goulburn electorate has been selected to serve as the foundation’s centre.
“The initiative draws inspiration from the successful regeneration of Dumfries House in Scotland and the King’s Foundation aims to implement similar community-focused initiatives at Hillview.
“The foundation plans to develop practical education and training programs in traditional crafts, helping to cultivate the next generation of skilled artisans – our region is a natural choice.
“I am excited for the opportunity to work closely with the King’s Foundation Australia and supporting their work in restoring Hillview to its former glory
“This project will not only celebrate our heritage but also empower young people, support sustainable practice and heritage conservation,” Mrs Tuckerman said.
The New South Wales Government has entered into a long-term lease for the Hillview property, which remains under its ownership. With its 60-hectare estate and 38 habitable rooms, including 27 bedrooms, Hillview is known for its exceptional historical significance.
As the King’s Trust Australia, previously known as the Prince’s Trust, continues its impactful work in supporting disadvantaged youth and military veterans, the establishment of the King’s Foundation Australia marks a new chapter in fostering a brighter future for communities across New South Wales.
