RESPONSE TO 2024-25 BUDGET

I am bitterly disappointed by the NSW budget, released by the Minns Labor Government on Tuesday.

This is the worst budget that NSW has ever seen. It does nothing for the families of the Goulburn electorate who are struggling under the cost of living.

In the last two budgets delivered by Labor we have seen a 21.6% increase in taxation revenues – from a Government that promised no new taxes. Government general expenses and expense growth are now at the highest level in 10 years and are set to continue rising in the years ahead.

This budget delivers very little funding for the Goulburn electorate – most projects announced are simply re-announcing funding provided to the region from the former Liberal-National Government.

New money to fund a planning strategy for the Hume Highway from Marulan to the Victoria border has been announced – but no new funding to complete the Barton Highway.

Labor touted this as the budget for schools and hospitals. It is disappointing to see that there has been no additional funding, at all, mentioned in the Fixing Our Schools section of Labor’s budget, to any school in the Goulburn electorate.

I’ve got communities desperately crying out for school infrastructure and they have been overlooked. The previous Government made an election promise to build a new hall for Moss Vale High School and this government has refused to see it as a priority.

While we see however many millions allocated to schools, there is no detail about where it is going. $150 million was taken away from school budgets this year, in most cases funding from P&C’s school infrastructure projects have been frozen. I will continue to fight to ensure Goulburn gets its fair share and that this government invests in our children and our schools.

Labor promised a lot to get elected and I see a lot missing from the past two years of Labor budgets.

I’m still waiting on an indication that the Labor Government will fulfil all their election commitments. They promised $250,000 last year for a scoping study for Yass Hospital, but there’s no mention of it in this year’s budget and no study to show for it.

These broken promises means that despite record revenue received by the Government, there is no new cost of living support. Instead we have cuts to schools, hospitals, frontline services and infrastructure.

Households and businesses across NSW are being left behind during a time when they should be supported by their Government. Below is a short survey that I would appreciate your response to.
