LABOR FAILS TO CONSULT WITH LOCAL PRISON STAFF ON WING CLOSURE AT GOULBURN GAOL.

Under the cloak of Christmas, the Labor Government are set to close two wings of Goulburn Gaol.

Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman was made aware of the Corrective Services NSW Bed Consolidation via an announcement from the Public Services Australia (PSA) website, which detailed that the PSA was not consulted on the changed management plan.

“We need a guarantee from the Minister that there will be no job losses for Goulburn.

The Public Sector Union have indicated through a memo to members that there has been a lack of consultation with the union about these changes which is not normally the case.

“The change of management plan has occurred with no consultation from employees or the union and the employees deserve to know what their future looks like.

“The Labor Government should be ashamed of how they’ve handled this with the current economic climate and the pressures faced by the cost of living – lack of consultation for employees is just shameful.

“We have up to 100 locals employed in these wings and we need to understand what these changes will mean for employment.

“The Premier Chris Minns went to the election espousing integrity, accountability, transparency and fairness, according to the PSA, Labor didn’t even consult them before sending a memo this week.

“This is a huge slap in the face to the Public Service Union by Labor.

“I am calling on the Minister for answers immediately, employees and their families at the Goulburn Correctional facility deserve to know what their future holds.
