The upgrade of three tennis courts at Yass Lawn Tennis Club with synthetic turf in addition to the lighting of two courts is now complete.
Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman attended the Yass Lawn Tennis Club on Friday evening to mark the occasion for the facility after its success in the form NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities program.
“I am so pleased that the NSW Government could contribute $194,512 of the $219,512 that the Lawn Tennis Club needed to bring the court resurfacing and lighting project to fruition.
“The Yass Valley region and Yass Lawn Tennis Club are so fortunate to have a dedicated group of volunteers that are always looking to enhance their facility and opportunities for the game of tennis in Yass.
“I am so pleased to see the upgrade three of their five tennis courts to a synthetic surface – this will help facilitate more access to tennis for the public during the week, in the evenings and at weekends,” Mrs Tuckerman said.
Yass Lawn Tennis Club Captain Michele Whitters welcomed the funding.
“This project will be a tremendous boost to the Yass Lawn Tennis Club by the NSW Government, and will facilitate access to tennis for the public during the week, in the evenings and at weekends.
“The all-weather courts will remove the barriers of inclement weather and court preparation. The lights will see night tennis resume after many years. The synthetic courts will enable the Club to provide women’s social tennis during the week, offer coaching opportunities for children and adults, increase interclub competitions with clubs in the region, and provide many more innovative tennis opportunities for the Yass community,” Ms Whitters said.
