The standard of Carr Confoy fields in Eastgrove will be raised after success in a $1,000,000 application to the NSW Government’s Essential Community Sport Asset Program.
Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman and Goulburn Mulwaree Council Mayor Peter Walker today marked the commencement of the project.
“The current South Carr Confoy field is used by both soccer and junior cricket to train and play as well as community members staying fit and active. Unfortunately, the field and its users will suffer after a flood as water will stay on the field,” Mrs Tuckerman said.
“This funding will increase the utilisation and accessibility of the field and grow participation in both sports and community use, best of all, the upgrade will enable the fields to be more resilient to future extreme weather events.
“Goulburn Mulwaree Council will improve the standard of the directly damaged facilities to enable the return of soccer and cricket as soon as possible through repair, reconstruction, and betterment.
“The Carr Confoy South Field repair and improvement project will fill and raise the level of the playing ground, repair, replant and install drainage which will allow flood waters to recede immediately after flood events.
“This will make the fields more resilient to future floods and will aid sports clubs, schools and community use. Betterment will assist to increase sports participation through the provision of an inclusive and accessible community sports facility which will meet the needs of multiple sports, schools and community groups in Goulburn Mulwaree Local Government Area and the wider region,” Mayor Walker said.
