ALBANESE GOVERNMENT’S REVIEW RISKS BARTON HIGHWAY DUPLICATION

Delivery of Barton Highway has been put at risk by the Albanese Labor Government’s funding review of New South Wales infrastructure projects.

Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman said Labor is demonstrating that they have little interest in regional NSW.

“During the NSW State Election we saw Federal Member Kristy McBain standing next to candidate Labor Michael Pilbrow spruiking about 100 million dollars towards the duplication.  Well now that’s all at risk!

“The people of the Yass Valley deserve better than broken promises and a lack of transparency from the Labor Government.

“It makes no sense – without a plan for the sustainable growth of the regions, or safety on roads – they have put projects like the Barton Highway duplication on the chopping block and are choosing to use the infrastructure budget to build stadiums in Tasmania and Queensland,” Mrs Tuckerman said.

Mrs Tuckerman said this week the NSW Liberal/Nationals Coalition have pushed the  NSW Labor Government to fight for regional infrastructure projects and not stand by and accept the $100 million funding cut from Canberra on such a vital project.

“The Minns Labor Government and Kristy McBain Member for Eden Monaro and Minister for Local Government and Infrastructure, needs to stand up for regional NSW and push back against the Federal Labor Government’s cuts to local infrastructure projects.

Federal Member for Hume, Angus Taylor said “Labor is unfairly targeting regional communities for its infrastructure budget cuts, with two-thirds of all New South Wales projects slated to go under review coming from regional areas.

“If all these projects are cut by Labor, more than $10 billion would be stripped from the regions.

“Unbelievably, $407.3 million for the NSW Regional Road Safety Program is also potentially on the chopping block,” Mr Taylor said.
