Goulburn’s maternity suite will benefit from $50,000 in funding from the NSW Government to assist in the purchase of two birthing beds.
Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman and members BDCU Goulburn Hospital Fundraising Inc. committee visited Goulburn Base Hospital to announce the funds, provided through a one-off grant on behalf of NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet.
Mrs Tuckerman said recently, the Hospital requested the BDCU Goulburn Hospital Fundraising Inc. take on the philanthropic task to purchase two birthing beds valued at $25,000 each.
“I’m so pleased that they approached me for assistance and that the Premier has recognised the need to purchase of the new birthing beds”, Mrs Tuckerman said
BDCU Goulburn Hospital Fundraising Inc. President, Nerida Cullen said that over the last two years COVID has dented the money raising efforts.
“This has been frustrating for our highly motivated committee – that is why we approached Wendy for her support. She had previously facilitated the purchase of a bariatric lifter in 2020 as well as some other wish-list items for the hospital,” Mrs Cullen said.
Southern NSW Local Health District Chief Executive Margaret Bennett thanked the NSW Government for the funding.
“The new birthing beds are a wonderful addition to Goulburn Hospital’s maternity ward. They will support women to choose their birthing position at every stage of labour, maximising safety and comfort,” Ms Bennett said.
