The NSW Government has delivered new social housing in Goulburn following the completion of a $7.9 million project that will deliver 20 new homes for people in need.
Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman said the two two-storey apartment buildings on the corner of Mary Street and Hume Street were part of an ongoing focus by the NSW Land and Housing Corporation’s (LAHC) to deliver more, and better, social housing in the region.
“Around 25 people will now have a new place to call home as a result of this project,” Mrs Tuckerman said.
“This is a wonderful example of LAHC’s work in redeveloping its existing social housing stock into new modern, fit for purpose, high quality accommodation that people want to live in.”
The newly completed development comprises 12 one-bedroom and eight two-bedroom units, with two units adaptable for people who use a wheelchair.
Mrs Tuckerman said the completion of the 20 dwellings project was part of a string of new social housing developments planned in Goulburn.
“LAHC has also commenced construction on a second redevelopment project on the corner of Combermere Street and Rhoda Street that will deliver 14 new social housing units by next year,” Mrs Tuckerman said.
“We also anticipate the completion of three further projects in Goulburn by the end of next year, which will deliver a further 10 social homes.
“These developments have been funded as part of the $250 million Fast-Track Housing program aimed at stimulating economic growth by accelerating the delivery of new social housing.”
Mrs Tuckerman said the completed project at Mary Street and Hume Street created 35 jobs during construction, including for local tradespeople, with more opportunities on the way in the subsequent projects.
“Our investment is delivering more social housing and more opportunities for local tradies to build different types of housing to cater for a variety of household sizes.
“It’s part of the NSW Government’s ongoing commitment to provide more people and families in need with a safe place to call home.”
