GOULBURN MRI UPDATE

As the community is aware the NSW Government is investing $165 million to redevelop the Goulburn Hospital and Health Service.

The 2021-22 State Budget announced an additional $15 million in funding to support future focused health care – including the purchase and installation of an MRI machine. In November 2021, the new Clinical Services Building opened to patients with a dedicated space for the MRI machine.

While a Medicare licence is not required to establish and operate an MRI machine, it is however required to enable Medicare bulk billing – which is under the charge of the Australian Federal Government.

I thank the Federal Member for Hume, Angus Taylor, for his advocacy and confirming that the 2022/23 Federal Budget will provide full Medicare funding for an MRI in Goulburn.

NSW Health Infrastructure has been working closely with the Southern NSW Local Health District to progress detailed design and conduct investigations for a suitable MRI machine.

Expressions of interest and procurement of the MRI machine is underway with installation expected by end of 2022, followed by a commissioning process.

Residual works are underway including refurbishment of vacated areas, demolition and carparking to complete the project.

I look forward to further progress being made.
