The critical communications network at Boorowa and Mt Mundoonen, near Yass, will soon be boosted, with the NSW Telco Authority beginning capacity enhancement works at the Government Radio Network (GRN) site.
Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman said the network provides critical, secure and reliable radio communications.
“The network was pivotal in protecting our communities and supporting the emergency response to 2019-20 bushfires in NSW.
“During an emergency every second counts. Upgrading these two sites will expand the networks capacity at existing towers and minimise network congestion. This will assist our police, firefighters, paramedics and SES,” Mrs Tuckerman said.
West Bullio and Mt Darling network upgrades were recently completed.
“26 radio sites across the Goulburn electorate are being constructed or upgraded by the NSW Telco Authority as part of the expansion of the Public Safety Network across the state.”
“The NSW Government is investing over $600 million in essential infrastructure to better protect communities,” Mrs Tuckerman said.
Minister for Customer Service Victor Dominello said this represents the biggest investment by the NSW Government in critical communications in two decades and will increase the network’s coverage from 35 per cent of NSW to over 80 per cent.
