The critical communications network at Freestone, near Penrose, has been boosted, with the NSW Telco Authority completing capacity enhancement works at the local government critical communications site.
Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman said the enhancements at Freestone play a vital role in continued community safety.
“By expanding network capacity at existing towers, the NSW Telco Authority is delivering additional emergency service radio communications bandwidth to assist police, firefighters, paramedics and SES,” Ms Tuckerman said.
“During an emergency every second counts. The enhancements will minimise network congestion during an emergency.”
11 government radio sites across the State are being upgraded as part of a capacity enhancement project being undertaken by the NSW Telco Authority.
Minister for Customer Service Victor Dominello said: “This represents the biggest investment by the NSW Government in critical communications in two decades and will increase coverage from 35 per cent of NSW to more than 80 per cent.”
