Glenella Quarry will boost its output and save transport costs with the upgrade of Battery Rd, thanks to $1 million in funding from the NSW Government’s Drought Stimulus Package.
Parliamentary Secretary to the Deputy Premier Steph Cooke today joined Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman to inspect part of the 4.2km section of Battery Road near the Glenella Quarry, which will be upgraded and rehabilitated as part of the project.
Mrs Tuckerman said the road upgrade will improve road safety which has been a concern for the community for some time.
“These improvements will benefit motorists and freight operators and, in turn, the improved road will boost the Glenella Quarry’s production output. A greater output provides the opportunity for jobs growth.”
“Glenella Quarry is one of the most diverse mining operations in NSW and sells high-grade quartz silica pebble to the booming Sydney landscaping market, and also includes other raw materials,” Mrs Tuckerman said.
Ms Cooke said Battery Road is exactly the type of project which the NSW Government’s Drought Stimulus Package was designed for, projects that will create jobs for local tradies and suppliers during construction and support local businesses to expand into the future.
“I thank Hilltops Council and the Glenella Quarry for their significant financial contributions to this project and their commitment to building drought resilience and supporting industry during these tough times of drought.”
Ms Cooke said the project will provide work for construction workers and suppliers, who will in turn spend their wages in local shops and restaurants, which will keep money flowing through the region, even when rivers are not.
“The NSW Government knows local communities are doing it tough and this project will help keep tradies in work while also giving local industry the infrastructure upgrade they need to operate more efficiently,” Ms Cooke said.
Hilltops Council Mayor Brian Ingram said the community will welcome the funding with open arms, along with the economic opportunities the Battery Rd upgrade will deliver to the region.
“I thank the NSW Government for its major financial support of the Battery Rd safety upgrade and pavement rehabilitation project – a project that will make a marked positive difference to the region,” Mr Ingram said.
