Member for Goulburn Pru Goward today announced Sarah Baines from the Salvation Army as the 2019 Local Woman of the Year for the Goulburn electorate.
Ms Goward said the award recognises Mrs Baines’ outstanding contribution through her hard work and dedication to the local community.
Last week, Ms Baines was invited to the Goulburn electorate office under the guise of a meeting with work colleagues. Sarah’s family, husband Matthew, and Liberal Candidate for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman joined the surprise announcement and celebrations.
Ms Baines has worked as a financial counsellor with the Salvation Army for several years as the manager of Southern Region Moneycare program, which advocates on behalf of people under financial stress.
“Sarah is an exceptional treasure of our region and I’m so pleased to recognise her and the Salvation Army for the wonderful work carried out to assist vulnerable people under financial stress,” Ms Goward said.
“Sarah embodies the Australian spirit of mateship due to her empathy, compassion, and professionalism. Her work is extremely important as financial issues can easily spiral out of control, and when under financial stress, people are increasingly vulnerable to unexpected bills or expenses.
Ms Tuckerman said she was delighted to see Ms Baines named as the 2019 Goulburn Local Woman of the Year.
“It’s wonderful to be able to acknowledge Sarah’s work as well as her dedication and passion for improving the lives of her clients, and residents of Goulburn,” Ms Tuckerman said.
Award winners were also invited by their Member of Parliament to the 2019 NSW Women of the Year award ceremony, to be held at the Grand Ballroom in Sydney’s International Convention Centre on 7th March.
